A student looking at a map with six steps leading up a hill from A1 to C2 A2 — Elementary

Read and Understand

Have you ever taken a CEFR language test? CEFR stands for Common European Framework of Reference. It is a long name, but the idea is simple. It helps you understand how well you speak, read, write, and listen in English. There are six levels, from A1 (beginner) to C2 (expert).

Taking a CEFR language test is like using a map. When you know your level, you can find the right books and classes. For example, if you are A2, an A2 book will not be too hard or too easy. Think about it: which level do you think you are right now?

Many schools and jobs ask for a CEFR language test to see your skills. You do not pass or fail this test. Instead, it just shows your current ability. It is a great way to celebrate what you know and plan your next steps in learning English!
